IntroductionGreetings! Just introducing myself here for anyone who hangs around this board...my name is Ken Priebe.
I am originally from Michigan and graduated from University of Michigan School of Art & Design with my BFA, concentrating in film & animation. I studied subjects like Art History, Drawing, Printmaking, Photography, 16mm Filmmaking, and many Film Theory courses. I taught myself animation by taking an independent study and directing student films. During this time I also got to work in animation professionally with a local animator named Steve Stanchfield. I moved to Vancouver in 1998 to study classical animation more formally at VanArts, with master animator Lee Mishkin. VanArts offered me a filmmaking scholarship and part-time work for a second year, and since then I have continued to work at VanArts as a teaching assistant, part-time instructor, and administrator. I have managed the Admissions Department for the past 5 years, and on Saturdays teach part-time courses for 2D and Stop-Motion Animation. The stop-motion course was developed by myself, and has been the only specialized course of its kind available in Vancouver. Teaching this course led to my being approached in 2005 by Thomson Course Technology publishers to write a textbook on stop-motion. I spent only 6 months putting it together and my first published work The Art of Stop-Motion Animation was released in July 2006. Additional book ideas are planned for the future, and I plan on continuing to write. In addition to my job, I am also an independent filmmaker with a documentary short and an animated short currently in production. I have also been blessed with the opportunity to animate as a freelancer on occasion, most recently on a short 2D film for Weston Woods. I have also been happily married for 6 years and we now have a baby girl.
I'm equally passionate about 2D and Stop-Motion Animation in particular, and also have fondness for the better CG work out there, but since I don't work in CG myself, I have a more distant connection to it, I guess.
I'll add a post about my current short film to the thread about projects.
I plan on attending the 2D or not 2D Festival this year, and will also be at the Platform Animation Festival in Portland from June 25-28.
Looking forward to connecting! Thanks!

Hi and welcome!
I was big on stop-motion back in the 70s, using Plasticene and a Super 8 camera. Those were the days and Ray Harryhausen was the MAN!

VanartsSo you must remember my putting the rose in the skeleton's teeth at the graduation reception?
I said I was going to behave, I told them. So I lied...
