Welcome to the 2D OR NOT 2D forum.

Welcome to the "2D OR NOT 2D" forum. This is a place to share all things 2D... with a little 3D thrown in too (although you guys have more than enough forums dealing with your stuff already!). This is a place to talk 2D, share tips, talk about Tony White's new book, discuss the fantastic Animation Festival we're putting on in November... indeed chat about anything to do with 2D animation.

Just pull up a keyboard, start a new topic and jump right on in! Very Happy

Hey!

Wow I'm really excited to read your book and attend to the Festival. I hope I can squeeze in an animation! The animation industry is grateful to have a mentor like you and I and everyone around me will try out best to preserve this dying art!
Thanks for giving it your all to address this problem and I hope many join the resurrection in the USA. I feel with flash that many people are ignoring a lot of traditional animations potential, they don't care to spend the great time and effort to make it a great piece of art. I'm not one to say much since I havn't made anything spectacular yet, but because flash is so excessable, mediocre animation is taking over. I hope pixar is doing something with disney, putting 2d back on track, it disney itself. I don't know the news on the situation, anybody know?
welp, hope to see this forum take off

Hi David.

Thank you for contributing. Other visitors may not know what you mean by the 'Festival' so I'm suggesting they visit http://www.2dornot2d.org to know more.

I'm not sure about the 'mentor' tag. I simply try to share the very privileged life and experiences I have had in animation with others, so that they may possibly take that information and utilize it in their own work, whatever that work is. I also try not be so hard on Flash animation as I know that it has so many difficult restrictions imposed on it, compared with other disciplines in animation. That said, Flash animators can definitely benefit from understanding thoroughly the classical principles of movement... even in their restrictive environment... for the betterment of the medium.

Anyway, good luck with your studies. A revival of animation in the West is not just a case of the 'money people' at the top making it so, in my opinion. It is for every one of us to push for excellence in our own work ethic, whatever level our work is on, so that the public can be educated on what animation excellence really means. That way, with increased discrimination, perhaps they will then demand that mainstream filmmakers, producers and distributors raise the bar in what they offer to the public.

Best wishes,

Tony. :^{)}=-
